and....The Garden Begins!

We have been practically counting the days down until we could get out in the garden and do more than just dig dirt. We've started seeds inside and we've been staring at them everyday just waiting for the right timing. Finally after talking with our neighbor we decided that today would be the day that we finally get some food out there!
A garden is much more exciting when it has some green to look at!!
Today we planted some broccoli, brussel sprouts, collard greens, spinach, iceburg lettuce, butterhead lettuce (my personal favorite!!), and cabbage. Also we planted some strawberries in our hanging pots.
K was such a big help! It amazes me how much his interest has changed from one year to the next.
We did end up finally buying our own composter too! I could not be more excited! I was really on the edge of should we buy one of these or should we not.....but after seeing how much we waste and how much we spend on buying our compost-I finally decided it was time to give in and bite the bullet.
Here is the mushroom compost we've been using. K cracks me up. When we use cow manure he knows it's cow doo doo so of course when we use mushroom compost it can only be one thing: Mushroom doo doo!!
The compost tumbler was not the easiest to put together but between the two boys...they managed. Now it's time to start using it!!
Well the garden has officially started. I look forward in the coming weeks to see what becomes of it. Each year is so different. It all remains a strange mystery.
